Executive Summary

WHW is the largest gender-based violence (GBV) serving agency and the only certified rape crisis center in Southwest Ohio. In 2022, WHW served over 12,500 clients through trauma-informed evidence-based crisis intervention and prevention services. In 2022, WHW provided  record-breaking 28,251 intervention services to 7,721 survivors through 24/7 hotline/text/chat, 24/7 on-scene advocate response to 25 jurisdictions on DV 911 calls, 24/7 hospital response to 25 hospitals, court accompaniment and advocacy to 16 courts, 8 support groups, emergency client financial assistance. WHW’s evidence-based intervention strategies are designed to disrupt the continuation of violence and are centered upon the needs of survivors and amplifies responses to communities with the highest rates of violence. WHW allocates resources and methodologies to ensure the needs of marginalized survivors are met with cultural humility, representation, and connection to safety and empowerment.  WHW has culturally responsive outreach programs to address the specific needs and challenges these survivors face, and largely mirrors demographics, geographic belonging, and survivor status among staff. WHW’s prevention programming is also recognized as innovative across the state of Ohio and engages the community holistically in responding to GBV through prevention and education initiatives aimed at raising awareness and reshaping attitudes about GBV in schools, community, and workplaces to prevent GBV from ever happening in the first place. WHW’s vision is to serve 50,000 survivors and reach 25,000 young people in our region with crisis intervention and prevention programming over the next 5 years.
