Executive Summary
Since 2017, Oasis Legal Services (Oasis) has provided trauma-informed legal representation and social services to the LGBTQ+ immigrant community. LGBTQ+ immigrants exist at the intersection of multiple systems of oppression and face unique roadblocks in obtaining economic and social well-being. Our clients come from 68 different countries, and are survivors of homophobic and transphobic hate crimes who have fled persecution in their countries of origin due to their sexuality, gender identity, and/or HIV status.
Oasis has a strong relationship with the community we serve because it is our own community. Our team and Board of Directors are made up of people who are LGBTQ+, immigrants, and who come from immigrant families. Staff also have lifelong connections to the Bay Area and Central Valley, where our organization has offices. We are proud to serve our own communities, incorporate their feedback into our growth, and offer culturally responsive services that give our clients safety and stability in the United States.
Our legal services offer protections that empower our clients socially and economically, while our social services program empowers and assists clients emotionally. With our holistic services and the protection of immigration status, our clients find security and can participate fully in their communities. Our impact also ripples outward through our training and resource sharing, bolstering the national community of legal service providers to serve LGBTQ+ immigrants with respect and dignity. Oasis ensures that the most marginalized in our communities do not just survive, but thrive, in the United States.
