Executive Summary
New Earth (NE) is dedicated to significantly reducing youth incarceration and recidivism in LA County through compassion, understanding, exposure, and opportunity. Members can enroll in a high school diploma program onsite at NE Campus in West Los Angeles with partner DaVinci RISE. NE offers programs like F.L.O.W, a poetry and music program; technology job training for careers of the future through New Earth Digital, a social enterprise and workforce development program; life and conflict resolution skills; and individualized care management and mentorship for 800 system-impacted youth annually in probation camps, at partner public schools, and at our 13,000 sq. foot campus in the heart of Silicon Beach. As one of LA's few Black-founded-and-led youth nonprofits, NE brings unique experiential competencies to serve justice-impacted youth or those who are at risk for entering the system. Staff are 98% people of color, many with lived experience in the justice system, and reflect the community served. Four staff members were previous NE participants. With 97.1% of LA County's youth in juvenile detention facilities being people of color, this representation is crucial. Having served 35,000+ youth, New Earth boasts a recidivism rate of less than 7%, compared to the countywide rate of 70%. By offering comprehensive programming, young people who are traditionally marginalized in workforce and education are given access and opportunity to break the cycle of inequity and poverty, equipping them with the tools they need to lead successful lives and positively contribute to their communities.Organization Details
