Executive Summary
Mobile Care Chicago’s (MCC) mission is to deliver no-cost medical and preventative care, education, and support to low-income children and families within their communities aboard mobile medical clinics. MCC’s patients are largely Hispanic/Latinx or Black/African American. For 23+ years, MCC has used partnerships with Chicago and Cook County schools to provide a convenient, trusted location for children who have complex needs but whose parents may not have the time, transportation, or work flexibility to access more distant brick-and-mortar clinics. In total, MCC’s mobile clinics serve 10,000 patients throughout Cook and Lake Counties, seeing the vast majority multiple times per year. Many school sites have worked with MCC for 10-20+ years and MCC is honored to have treated the parents of some current patients.
MCC improves the health and well-being of communities in Cook and Lake County first by partnering with 200+ sites to surmount access barriers like cost, transportation and insurance coverage by meeting patients in their own communities aboard a mobile unit to provide free care. Second, MCC improves patient health outcomes.
MCC determines program success based on patient health outcomes with measures including the percentage of patients who experience an elimination of or reduction in a) amount of school days missed due to oral health pain/ uncontrolled asthma symptoms, b) visit(s) to the Emergency Department due to urgent oral health needs/uncontrolled asthma symptoms, c) reduction in oral health pain, d) increase in patient Asthma Control Test score to above 18 (indicating control).
