Ho-Chunk Community Development Corporation (HCCDC) is located on the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska Reservation, with a population of 2,737 people. HCCDC focuses on serving residents through affordable housing and economic development, financial education and literacy, and community programming. Tribal members represent HCCDC leadership with varying degrees of education, age, and experience. Since 2008, HCCDC’s Down Payment Assistance Program has provided $2.5 million in assistance so that 70 Tribal members could construct new homes on the reservation, in addition to 102 apartments, with 10 for elder housing. partners with Ho-Chunk Community Capital Corporation (certified Community Development Financial Institution) to provide services and support to families and local small businesses. HCCDC also understands that communities are more than just buildings, roads, and infrastructure. The organization serves a critical community organizing role, bringing together citizens and local organizations to understand and address quality of life issues. HCCDC provides strategic planning, grantsmanship, training, and project administration to coordinate service programs improving the quality of life for people living on the reservation. Finally, HCCDC works with the Tribe and other key community partners to address food insecurity. The Tribe's efforts focus on increasing the number of Tribal members who can grow food, expanding the availability of fresh, healthy, locally grown food for purchase on the reservation, and addressing nutrition-related health challenges disproportionately experienced by Tribal populations.
