Executive Summary
In its 62 years, EEC has served over 62,000 adult learners seeking to speak, read, and write in English. EEC is unique because it focuses on pre-literate adults and is considered the “starting block” of the adult education continuum providing the crucial first steps of language education, while also providing workplace soft skills and industry recognized credentialing. EEC uses today’s best practices for adult learning and second language acquisition in its instruction.
Last year, EEC’s 16 staff members of diverse cultural backgrounds worked with 524 volunteers who gave more than 25,000 hours of service. Learners offer valuable feedback that helps program administrators guide development and improvements by completing end of semester surveys on classes and goals they achieved as a result of their education. Student Advisors are assigned to learners providing guidance towards goals, next steps, and transitions.
EEC provides in-person classes but recognizes that virtual learning programs (created due to COVID) are here to stay. We have worked tirelessly to establish virtual programs and convert lessons to online formats over the past few years, which has provided EEC with an opportunity to reach a wider range of learners geographically, meet learners in a place best suited for individual circumstances, and has established EEC as a leader in another area of the English education field for online learning around the state and nationally.
