Executive Summary
The Chinese Community Center (CCC) provides educational, cultural, and social service programs that meet the needs of people from meager or modest means at any stage of life—from early childhood to aging in place. CCC serves people who live anywhere in the Greater Houston metropolitan area, which has a more racially and ethnically diverse population than the United States and where many residents are of meager or modest means, including people who are employed but still struggling to afford basic necessities, such as food, housing, childcare, healthcare, and transportation. While CCC’s programs are inclusive and open to people of any race or ethnicity, CCC plays a specialized role in Greater Houston through its capacity to provide culturally and linguistically competent care to the Asian American population, which faces unique challenges to attaining full inclusion in American society, including higher rates of limited English proficiency and people who are foreign born.
CCC’s staff and leadership are racially and ethnically representative of the community being served. Staff collectively speaks English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Chinese—the four most commonly spoken languages in Greater Houston—to ensure equal access to community resources. CCC serves all members of the household by helping children succeed in school; helping adults gain living-wage jobs and financial stability; and helping seniors maintain their health, well-being, and social connection.
